The Anglo American Sporting Club was originally conceived in 1958 with its roots firmly planted in Manchester. Formally launched as the Wyverne Club at Manchester’s Midland Hotel, the concept behind the venture was to provide gentlemen of standing, an evening of varied male-oriented entertainment away from their wives. There were three rivals to The Wyverne, The National Sporting Club, The World Sporting Club and The Midland Sporting Club but The Wyverne Later to be renamed The Anglo American Sporting Club was considered the most prestigious of them all.
